Send letters to your future great grandchildren!

FAQ

1.) Why is it a good idea to write a letter to my adult great grandchildren

Well, in one sense the whole process of procreation is to preserve life forces through sending our own DNA code forward in time. That is a biological fact. However we are individuals and we can write our own unique "code". This is within our control.

Through this site grandparents are invited to write letters to adult great grandchildren for their enjoyment at a shared " moment " albeit seperated in time, when both have pasts to reflect upon and both still share unknown futures.

There are many possible personal motivations for writing these letters and in no particular order we suggest for example:

2.) ONCE I HAVE WRITTEN MY LETTER HOW CAN I ENSURE THAT IT WILL BE READ BY MY GREAT GRANDCHILD?

Of course we cannot guarantee that the letter will be read but only that it will be available on the destiny date to be read. How we will achieve this is clearly explained in our guarantee section.

3.) CAN I MODIFY AN UPLOADED LETTER TO TAKE ACCOUNT OF MAJOR UNEXPECTED LIFE CHANGES?

No it is not possible to access your letter once uploaded prior to your great grandchild's destiny date. However, you can choose to write and upload a second letter for this great grandchild to be opened on the same destiny day.

4.) CAN A GRANDCHILD OF MINE RECOVER MY LETTER TO MY GREAT GRANDCHILD OWING TO LACK OF THEIR OWN CHILDREN?

No this facility is not available. The whole concept is that there is, through the conduit of letter writing, adult communication between you and your great grandchild who you may well never meet.

In a perfect world there might be little in these letters that has not been communicated in your own lifetime to your adult children and, where access is close, to your own grandchildren too. The creation of your first letter can act as a motivator to pass on what is important to you to your loved ones today and an encouragment to your children to ask all the right questions too.

Your own letter, if you want, can be a product of collaboration and shared memories. A sealed copy of your letter might also accompany your will with instructions to your relatives as to your wishes in respect of contingency planning.

We have also added a service where, after two letters have been uploaded for great grandchildren, there is an option to upload one additional letter to a nominated adult grandchild to be delivered in 50 years. When this entitlement, which is free, applies it is prompted for when you select "compose new letter" on the "my letters" section in "my account". This is intended to recognise that many family circumstances differ and you might like to upload a letter for an adult grandchild too!

5.) CAN MY GREAT GRANDCHILD OPEN THEIR LETTER EARLY BECAUSE THEY BECOME AWARE THAT THEY WILL NOT LIVE TO THEIR DESTINY DATE?

The unique access code is calibrated to prevent access to online letters until the destiny date. Therefore to cover this contingency a duplicate letter would need to be left with appropriate instructions with family.

6.) WHAT IF MY ACCESS CODE IS LOST?

This can be recovered by logging into your account .

7.) IS MY LETTER CONFIDENTIAL WITHIN THE DATABASE?

The letters are deemed only of direct interest to you and your recipient and as such the text is not encrypted. This eases the cost of recovery of letters and protects against redundancy in de-encryption programmes. All personal address and e mail data is however encrypted. Access is only possible by using the access code on or after the destiny date.

8.) WHEN IS MY GREAT GRANDCHILD'S DESTINY DATE?

This is very simple. The date is set in the system to be exactly 75 years from the birth of your own grandchild. As a result there is a good chance that your great grandchild will also be a grandparent. Also, there will be an opportunity for a major family gathering for a joint celebration among your grandchildren and great grandchildren!

9.) WHERE DID THE INITIATIVE FOR DEVELOPING THIS SITE COME FROM?

The promoters are Paul and Carol Mitchell.

As recently retired Village Innkeepers in the Yorkshire Dales we were often in receipt of personal, mythical, historical and frequently hilarious tales from past times. Perhaps this was the genesis.

We are also both twice married and now having enjoyed our 30th wedding anniversary we have nine adult children (two daughters run the Pub!) and in just the last nine years sixteen fantastic grandchildren.

Our family is happy and its members are very successful.

This site is a tribute to them.
